Appendix B. International Keyboard Support

The Indigo2 system uses a PC-compatible keyboard that does not support software identification for the varied international keyboard languages that Silicon Graphics offers.

Instead, you can select the keyboard layout from the System Maintenance menu. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. After you've assembled the workstation, turn on the power.

    • Press the power switch on the front of the monitor to turn on your monitor.

    • Open the door on the front of the Indigo2 by snapping it away from the top edge of the chassis and tipping it down, as shown in Figure B-1.

    • Press the power switch to turn on the system, as shown in Figure B-2.

  2. While the system is powering up, you see the notifier shown in Figure B-3 on your monitor screen.

  3. Click Stop for Maintenance to display the System Maintenance menu icons.

  4. Click the Select Keyboard Layout icon.

    The keyboard layout menu is displayed, as shown in Figure B-4.

  5. Click the box next to the name that describes your keyboard, then click Apply.

    Table B-1 lists the keyboard layout choices and their corresponding languages.

To test if the correct layout was selected, click the Command Monitor icon, and try typing some sample text, including special characters specific to your keyboard.
