Chapter 3. Installing Node-locked Licenses
This chapter explains how to install node-locked licenses. Two installation procedures are given; choose the one that is appropriate for your situation:
Some products include a node-locked license installation command that you can use instead of either of the procedures below. Check the release notes for a licensed product to find out if it has such a command.
Before beginning any installation procedure, make sure that you have a license information sheet that contains at least the following information: vendor ID, product name, product version, expiration date, license password, and one or more system identification numbers (target, sysinfo, and/or serial number). Check the expiration date to make sure the license hasn't expired.
Graphical Installation of a Node-locked License
ls_nodelock(1M) is a graphical command for installing node-locked licenses on systems running IRIX Release 5.0.1 or later. Follow these steps to install a license with ls_nodelock:
If the sysinfo number on the license information sheet is a number rather than the word “Any”, verify that the license information sheet is for the system you plan to install the license on. Compare the sysinfo number on the license information sheet with the output of this sysinfo(1) command:
If the numbers are different, the information on the license information sheet wasn't generated for this system. The license won't work on this system, so you should not install it.
Become superuser:
Install the licensed software product if it is not installed already.
Install the subsystem netls_eoe.sw.netls_eoe if it is not installed already.
To begin installing the license, start ls_nodelock:
A window border appears. After you position the window border and click the left mouse button, the window shown in Figure 3-1 appears.
If the vendor name shown on the license information sheet is not “Silicon Graphics”, replace the contents of the Vendor Name field with the vendor name from the license information sheet.
If you replaced the vendor name, replace the contents of the Vendor ID field with the correct vendor ID.
Enter the product name in the Product Name field.
Enter the product version in the Version field.
Enter the expiration date in the Expiration Date field.
Enter the license password in the License Password field.
If a license annotation appears on the license information sheet, enter it in the Annotation field.
Click the Add button. A notifier window appears.
Click the OK button.
Click the Quit button.
Save the license information sheet; you may need it again later if you need to reinstall this license.
Non-graphical Installation of a Node-locked License
This section explains how to install a node-locked license by editing the nodelock file /var/netls/nodelock (/usr/netls/nodelock on IRIX Release 5.0 and earlier). This procedure can be used on any system.
Using any text editor, such as jot(1G) or vi(1), open the file /var/netls/nodelock (/usr/netls/nodelock if the system is running IRIX Release 5.0 or earlier).
On a blank line, create a comment: enter a # followed by the name of the product the license is for, the expiration date, if any, and any other information you might need later to help you remember what the license is for. For example:
# temporary Tracker 1.0 license, expires on 6/16/93
|
On the next line of the file, type the vendor ID. For example, the Silicon Graphics vendor ID:
546fb4684914.02.c0.1a.3d.52.00.00.00
|
On the same line, type a space after the vendor ID, and then type the license password from the license information sheet. For example:
If there is a license annotation (see the license information sheet), type a space after the password, then type the annotation on the same line. Annotations containing spaces must be enclosed in double quotes (").
Write the file and exit the editor. The license is now installed. Example 3-1 shows a sample /var/netls/nodelock (/usr/netls/nodelock on IRIX Release 5.0 and earlier) file that contains licenses for two products (because of line length limitations, many characters in the NetVisualyzer™ license password are not shown).
Example 3-1. Sample /var/netls/nodelock File (/usr/netls/nodelock on IRIX 5.0 and Earlier)
# Silicon Graphics CASEVision/Workshop 1.1.1 expires 12/31/93
546fb4684914.02.c0.1a.3d.52.00.00.00 9qscr4pncxaqwc9ai8r7wc2a
# Silicon Graphics NetVisualyzer 2.0 expires 6/30/93

Save the license information sheet; you may need it again later if you need to reinstall this license.
